Unlisten, Relisten

It's really easy to listen to a familiar song and let it be about some entity outside of your present self. Maybe that song reminds you a certain time in your life, or someone who has since left. Every time that song comes on, we sink into a familiar association and aren't really listening anymore. It becomes mechanical, and the true meaning gets lost in the one we have attached to it.


Tonight, on my way home from yoga, my body and mind were flowing into open water - just melting into the world. I felt extremely open, physically and mentally. I turned on the radio and Lifehouse's "Hanging By a Moment" was playing. I let the song engulf me, and suddenly it took a whole new meaning. I decided to listen through myself, rather than through a past experience or thoughts of someone else. The song was about me - about me falling even more in love with myself and my oneness with the Universe and its being.

Try cracking open your being and listening to music with new ears.
